Two West London Ark schools have won a prestigious award for their physical fitness programme.

The innovative PE Programme Champions by publisher Rising Stars, which was developed in cooperation with Ark Bentworth Primary Academy and Ark Conway Primary Academy, was awarded the 2016 Education Resources' ‘Whole Curriculum Subject Resource of the Year’ award.

The programme offers a holistic approach to the teaching of PE, teaches sports, improves fitness and deepens knowledge of health and wellbeing to primary school children.

"We are seeing children active for longer periods of time,” said Damian McBeath, Executive Principal, Ark Bentworth Primary School. “They are eating healthier food; engaging in discussions about how they can keep themselves healthy; and developing a love for sports and games.”

Champions has equipped pupils at both schools with a much greater awareness of healthy lifestyles and how they can develop stronger, healthier bodies, look after themselves well and make decisions that will have an impact - as well as making it easy for all teachers to run outstanding PE classes.

"The children have responded really well to a particular module that we taught called Cool Core where we use yoga moves,” said Sian Charlesworth, Year 1 Teacher, Ark Bentworth Primary Academy. “It was quite a different thing for them to do and they really enjoyed it.”
