Leading Educators works with experienced teachers who can offer crucial teacher leadership, but who may be in danger of stagnating or leaving the profession. By preparing teachers to lead as department heads, instructional coaches, and other leadership positions, the programme helps keep great people in the classroom. It also consults with districts, charter management organizations (CMOs), schools, and non-profit organizations, helping to raise achievement by improving teacher development.
Leading Educators is a human capital program that seeks to train, empower, and retain middle leadership - meaning teachers with at least a few years of experience who are in danger of stagnating or leaving the profession, and who have the ability to offer substantive teacher leadership in their schools. Leading Educators works with districts and schools to keep great people in the classroom, in part by preparing teachers to lead as department heads, instructional coaches, and other leadership positions. The organization runs a two-year Fellowship program that involves frequent leadership development sessions, and which emphasizes building a teacher's ability to coach and provide feedback to other teachers. Leading Educators also offers Strategic Support Initiatives (SSI), customized teacher leadership development consulting to districts, charter management organizations (CMOs), schools, and non-profit organizations to leverage teacher leadership to increase student achievement. The organization started work in New Orleans, Louisiana, and continues to expand to other cities across the U.S.
