As part of ARK’s University and Careers Success programme, Tolu was one of just six students to secure a summer school placement to Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire, United States. In his third and final blog about the experience, he waxes lyrical about the Harkness teaching method and remembers what he calls "the best summer" of his life. Tolu graduated from ARK Kings Academy in Birmingham August 2013 with seven GCSEs.

After months of readings, rehearsals, costume and set designing, ARK pupils stole the limelight at the Shaw Theatre in London, performing a range of Shakespeare plays as part of the Shakespeare Schools Festival.

The biggest ARK Schools Summit yet was held on Monday 4 November, bringing together almost 2,000 staff from across the network. Designed to inspire teams for the year ahead, the day was packed with dynamic workshops and thought-provoking training sessions, as well as networking opportunities for teams from across the country.

Building strong foundations in English and maths is key to ensuring children can unlock the rest of the curriculum. However, children who have dyslexia can find it harder to secure those foundations, particularly in English.
The Drive for Literacy programme, run jointly by ARK Schools and the Driver Youth Trust, helps us to identify and support pupils who need extra help.

Today marks the official launch of Frontline, a new social work training programme co-founded by ARK.
At a launch event hosted by social media network LinkedIn this morning, Secretary of State for Education Michael Gove, MP and Lord Adonis announced that from 30 September outstanding graduates will be able to apply for an exciting new career in children’s social work.

ARK’s approach to teaching maths, Mathematics Mastery, has completed its first year and is already seeing excellent results. The programme aims to ensure all pupils fully understand mathematical concepts and has already been taught to more than 2,000 children in 30 primary schools.
