Thursday 18th June 2015

Construction has started on Ark Burlington Danes Primary Academy. This exciting new chapter means that Ark Burlington Danes Academy will become an all-through school with students able to attend from age four up to eighteen.
The primary school will provide 420 places for local children between four and eleven years old and is looking forward to welcoming its first 60 pupils in September 2015. When the new building is open the school will also offer nursery places to 3 and 4 year olds.

Students at Ark Globe Academy were featured on a Channel 4 News report about their high aspirations for the future.
The students spoke about their ambitions for the future in a piece about social mobility and high proportion of former private school students in high-flying careers such as finance or management consultancy.

David Gould, Principal of Ark St Alban’s Academy has been awarded a prestigious national teaching award.  Mr Gould was awarded a Silver Pearson Teaching Award for Lifetime Achievement. 
More than 4,000 entries were received for the Pearson Teaching Awards this year with just 58 Silver Awards being made across several categories.  Mr Gould joins a list of exceptional teachers from across the UK who will now be considered for a single Gold UK Teaching Award in each category.

An inspiring teaching assistant from Ark Blacklands Primary Academy has said he is “overwhelmed” after being awarded one of the country’s top teaching awards.
James Havbro was presented with a Silver Pearson Teaching Award by the Deputy Mayor of Hastings, Councillor Judy Rogers, on Friday afternoon.

A new Headteacher has been appointed to lead Ark Chamberlain Primary Academy, currently Oldknow Academy, when it joins the Ark network in September. Wendy Baxter is currently Headteacher at Meadstead Primary Academy in Barnsley where she has taken an underperforming school to one rated ‘good’ by Ofsted in just over a year.

A network of schools in Uganda supported by Ark is celebrating their best ever exam results this year after the number of students achieving good results jumped ten percentage points.
In total, 48% of students across 21 PEAS schools, which are supported by Ark, achieved the top three grades in their 2014 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examinations - the Ugandan equivalent to GCSEs - up from 38% in 2013 and three percentage points above the national average.

Students from St Alban’s Academy have wowed schools from across the UK with their debating skills during a Model United Nations conference. 
300 students from across the UK took part in the educational simulation, in which students learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations, at Joseph Chamberlain Sixth Form in Birmingham. Of those 300, two students from St Alban’s Academy in Highgate achieved recognition - Samira Ali was awarded best resolution of the conference and Zakaria Mohammed won most effective speaker.

An inspirational teaching assistant from Ark Blacklands Primary Academy is in the running to win a national teaching award after using gardening to help pupils with challenging behaviour.
James Havbro, who runs an outdoor learning centre at the school for children with difficult behaviour, has been selected as a finalist for the prestigious Pearson Teaching Awards – often thought of as “the Oscars of teaching”.

Ark Byron Primary Academy in Acton is pleased to announce that Fiona Kaplan will be the Head of School when it opens in September 2015.
Ms Kaplan brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm, having previously been Assistant Headteacher and Early Years Leader at nearby Wendell Park Primary School.
