Four schools in London, Hastings and Portsmouth have joined the ARK Schools network this week, bringing the total number of academies in the group up to 31. In addition, two existing ARK academies in north London are expanding to create primary and secondary schools.

ARK Elvin Academy in Wembley has received a much-needed facelift before term starts in September. The academy, on Cecil Avenue, was previously Copland Community School before it joined the ARK family of academies this week and was renamed in honour of local First World War hero, Arthur Elvin. To aid this transition, the school is being given a fresh new look with the support of Brent Council, over 130 volunteers, and a generous paint donation from the Dulux Let’s Colour project.

A new basketball academy has been launched at Evelyn Grace Academy in Brixton by Luol Deng.
The DENG Academy is designed for young people to combine their studies with intensive training in the game. Students will have up to twenty hours of intensive basketball training per week.

Students at ARK Schools are celebrating a record set of GCSE results today.  The number of students getting 5 good GCSE passes (A*-C including English and maths) across the network is up from 54% to 57%.
 
Particular success stories this year include:

King Solomon Academy in Edgware Road secured their first GCSE results with 93% getting 5 A*-C grades including English and maths, making it one of the best schools in the country

Students from ARK Kings Academy in Birmingham interviewed Malala Yousafzai as part of the BBC School Report project. Their interview was broadcast on BBC Breakfast this morning.
Sufyan and Makalia asked about her role models and the future of education, as well as how Malala manages to balance studying for her GCSEs with her commitments outside school.

Students at ARK Schools are celebrating an impressive set of A level results this week. The number of students getting at least 3 A level passes across the network is up from 68% to 72%. One in five A level students got 3 passes at the top A* - B grades.  
Many ARK students are now heading for prestigious universities such as Cambridge, LSE, Manchester, Warwick and Plymouth.
