ARK’s Frontline social work programme officially launched

Wednesday 11th September 2013

Today marks the official launch of Frontline, a new social work training programme co-founded by ARK.

At a launch event hosted by social media network LinkedIn this morning, Secretary of State for Education Michael Gove, MP and Lord Adonis announced that from 30 September outstanding graduates will be able to apply for an exciting new career in children’s social work.

This year, Frontline will offer 100 successful applicants the opportunity to join a world-class leadership development programme, helping change the lives of some of Britain’s most vulnerable children.

“Frontline will attract the very best and brightest graduates”

Michael Gove said:  ‘I am determined to reform the social work profession so all social workers have the training they need to protect our most vulnerable children. Frontline will attract the very best and brightest graduates who want a real challenge. Those accepted will have the privilege and satisfaction of making a real difference.’

Intensive training for one of the toughest career choices

Applicants will undertake a rigorous four-stage process including a self-selection questionnaire, online application form, psychometric testing and an assessment centre. Those who make the grade will join Frontline’s two-year programme beginning with a five-week Summer Institute in July 2014.

Lord Adonis, Frontline Chair, said: ‘This is simply one of the most exciting graduate opportunities in the last ten years and participants will find it both challenging and rewarding. I wish them every success and encourage graduates up for a real challenge to apply.’

From a bold idea to reality in just over 18 months

In the past twelve months Frontline has grown from a policy paper to an organisation with a head office, university partner and is about to embark on an extensive recruitment campaign.  Throughout October and November, Frontline’s Recruitment Team will attend universities across Britain to position social work as a career of choice for high-achieving graduates. Frontline has already received over 2,800 expressions of interest from potential applicants.

Josh MacAlister, Chief Executive, Frontline, said: ‘Our launch is an important opportunity to acknowledge and thank our supporters for their help on the journey so far. We still have lots of work to do. Applicants will be applying for one of Britain's toughest and most rewarding jobs.’

Frontline sits within the family of ARK programmes. As a co-founder, ARK provides ongoing support and expertise.
