Staff and students at Ark Elvin Academy were delighted to set foot into their brand new building this week. The school, which is based in Wembley, is an eight-form entry secondary school. The new building is over three storeys and was constructed by Kier Group plc.
New facilities include fully-equipped food technology, design and technology, science and art departments. There is also a new music department which includes a recording studio with music labs and practice rooms, and state of the art drama studios.
Sports and physical education at the school will see a huge boost, thanks to the new gym equipment and Sports Hall facility areas, as well as two multi-use games areas which include a large 3G (artificial grass) football pitch with flood lighting. There’s also an assembly hall with retractable seating for presentations, performances and more.
Principal Becky Curtis said, “I’m so delighted to be opening our new building – it’s definitely been worth the wait. There is such a wealth of new facilities that will inspire our students, not just in their academic pursuits, but through arts, sports and other enrichment activities outside the classroom. We can’t wait to get settled in and make the most of the opportunities that the building has opened up for us.”
The building itself is virtually finished, but fit-out and final commissioning is still ongoing along with works to the surrounding landscape. All works should be completed by the end of the February 2018 half term.
