Ark Globe Academy speak to Channel 4 News on high aspirations

Students at Ark Globe Academy were featured on a Channel 4 News report about their high aspirations for the future.

The students spoke about their ambitions for the future in a piece about social mobility and high proportion of former private school students in high-flying careers such as finance or management consultancy.

The visit came after the Government’s Social Mobility and Child Poverty Commission published its report “Non-educational barriers to the elite professions evaluation”, which suggested that 70% of job offers at ‘elite’ firms went to graduates educated at private or selective schools.

Head Boy Carlin Peton told journalists how Ark Globe Academy is helping to prepare young people for higher education and further careers: “We go to top Russell Group universities and top business places and see how they do things there.

“Of course, the environment is very different there… but we’re taught how to adapt.”

Sixth form student Luqman Burhanudin said: “Loads of people will tell you to do this or be like this because that’s how you get to where you want to be… But I think the most important piece of advice for anyone is; ‘In a world where you can be anything, you should just really be yourself’.”
