ARK Putney Academy has been graded good in all four categories in its first Ofsted inspection – an exceptional achievement in just six months. Ofsted said that ARK Putney “is a well-led academy” whose students’ progress by the end of year 11 exceeds the national average.
They said that: “Teaching is typically good with some that is outstanding. Students’ behaviour is good… They treat each other and staff with courtesy and respect. “The sixth form is good. Students achieve well and make a positive contribution to the life of the academy.”
Ofsted added that the principal and his leadership team have: “focused relentlessly on securing improvement in teaching and students’ achievement. Leaders at all levels… have a clear view of the strengths and areas for development of the academy, which they are tackling rigorously and with determination. The academy’s focus on securing achievement pervades the work of the leadership team and is embraced at all levels.”
Chair of Governors, Michael Clark, said: “We are delighted with Ofsted’s judgement which is a huge endorsement of the hard work of the principal, Mark Phillips, and his team. ARK Putney Academy’s success is growing steadily and we’re really pleased that students and staff also made clear how much progress they see the school making.”
Principal, Mark Phillips, said: “This is a great outcome for our school and a reflection of the hard work that has gone into raising standards. I’m particularly proud of the inspectors’ comments on the commitment of staff and of their praise for our students. We are determined now to continue to raise standards and to work towards an outstanding grading. I’d like to thank all our staff, students and parents for their support and commitment. ”
