Ark students’ delight as GCSE results published

Students from across the Ark network are celebrating after they received their GCSE results today.

With formal exams cancelled, it fell to teachers to decide grades. Ark’s schools took a fair and consistent approach to grading, in line with official guidance. Grades were determined using a range of evidence and were moderated in schools by teachers, heads of department, and senior leaders. In addition, there was moderation across the network between schools and a network quality assurance process led by our experienced data team. Students have received the grades that their teachers believe they merit following consideration of a range of evidence.

Jerry Collins, Ark’s Director of Secondary, comments further: “These students have faced incredible challenges over the last eighteen months. Much learning time was lost, and many students and their families were also affected by grief, illness and mental health concerns. But once again, our students have triumphed over adversity, and we are hugely proud of them.

“Schools had to ensure that when they submitted their grades, that they were as fair as possible, and I am confident that our students’ hard work backs up the grades they are getting today.

“Our school communities have shown real dedication and resilience, and I am grateful to all our staff for their tremendous efforts.’’

Fiona Chapman, Principal at Ark Charter Academy in Portsmouth, said, “Never have students faced such a unique journey to earning their onward path through education. Our duty was to prepare them as best as we could. To build in inordinate amounts of resilience, adaptability and determination to weather the distinctive challenges that have faced them.”
