#ArkTalks panelists discuss spending review

We held our first #ArkTalks event of the year last month, which looked at the recent comprehensive spending review and the settlement achieved for education.

We were delighted that, once again, Times Columnist Rachel Sylvester chaired the event. She was joined by Luke Sibieta from the Institute for Fiscal Studies, who leads their annual report on education spending; Jonathan Simons, Partner and Head of the Education Practice at Public First; and Sam Freedman, Senior adviser to Ark and Senior Fellow at the Institute for Government.

Between them, the panel talked us through what the next few years will look like, where the major pressure points in the system will be, and the remaining big unknowns – as well as giving a perspective from the school level as to how things feel on the ground at the moment.

You can watch the recording here:

Join us at our #ArkTalks: What is the future of technical and vocational education? taking place on Wednesday 23 February at 5pm.

Getting technical and vocational education right has been the aim of many governments. T-Levels and degree apprenticeships are currently the government’s preferred methods, but what does that mean for BTECs and other qualifications? Nick Linford, former editor of FE Week and founder of Lsect, will chair this discussion about where we are with these reforms and, crucially, where they might go next. He will be joined by Lord Kenneth Baker, former Education Secretary and champion of vocational education, Ruth Coyle, Director of La Retraite Sixth Form; and Matt Jones OBE, Principal of Ark Globe Academy.
