On 5 March, ARK Schools launched the Reflections on Leadership series with a lecture and Q&A by former Foreign Secretary and Schools Minister, the Rt Hon David Miliband MP. Hosted by the University of London and introduced by Professor Sir Adrian Smith, the event is part of ARK Schools’ wider leadership development programme, which is designed to inspire current and future school leaders. David is the first in a series of speakers, which includes journalist John McCarthy and Sir Michael Wilshaw, among others, who will discuss their personal and professional leadership challenges and triumphs.
About ARK Schools’ programme to develop leadership capacity
Our school leaders have a huge task in raising aspirations and achievements in their schools in order to raise achievement and secure sustainable year-on-year improvements. Their leadership challenges include not only turning around under-performing schools, sometimes with considerable initial problems of morale and motivation, but also in creating new schools from scratch, something few headteachers experience in a career.
The ‘Reflections on Leadership’ lecture series
The Reflections on Leadership lecture series enables school leaders (heads, principals, and vice principals) to hear first hand from highly-successful leaders from the worlds of business, politics and the public sector about their personal experience of the challenges of leadership.
