On 24 May, there was a chance to mark the progress on the office building that will soon be transformed into Number One EdCity, the future home of Ark. To commemorate the completion of the structural elements of the building, EdCity partners and stakeholders gathered on the rooftop to drill the final board into place.
The nine-storey building will serve as Ark’s central office and a hub from which we will continue to support our 30,000 students across Ark’s 39 schools. Ark ventures, as well as our new ventures incubator, which will become an independent entity later this year, will also be moving into Number One early in 2024, with other like-minded organisations and tenants who want to support the mission occupying the remaining floors.
Lucy Heller, CEO of Ark, commented, “EdCity came into being thanks to the support and ambition of many partners – particularly Hammersmith and Fulham – who embraced the chance to create a something bigger and better for the whole community. Their vision has ensured that EdCity will become not just the home to Ark and our latest school, Ark White City, but a youth zone, nursery, adult education centre and a literal home to over 130 families.”
The event marked just one of what will be many significant milestones in the development of the wider EdCity site. Ark White City primary school and WEST youth zone will open in the autumn, and the completed Number One offices will be unveiled in 2024.
The EdCity regeneration scheme is being delivered by EdCity Development Ltd (ECDL) and funded by Hammersmith & Fulham Council and Ark. Work on the White City site began in July 2021 with construction partners, B+K. For more on EdCity, and to receive future updates visit www.edcity.org.uk
