Students and staff across the Ark network paused at 11am today to mark Remembrance Day. Our schools in Birmingham, Hastings, London and Portsmouth participated in two minutes of silence to honour fallen soldiers. In their special assemblies, schools also reflected through poetry readings, musical performances and the laying of wreaths.
This day marks the ceasefire that began at 11am on 11 November 1918 and brought an end to the fighting in the First World War. Since then, it has become an annual tradition that honours the sacrifices made by men and women, past and present, to protect the freedoms we have today.
