On Friday 6 December, Bloomberg hosted a speed networking event for 50 ARK students, aiming to raise aspirations and expose students to a wide range of career opportunities.
Students from ARK Putney Academy, Burlington Danes Academy, Walworth Academy and Parkwood Sixth Form met Bloomberg employees for ten minute introductions. Through questioning employees about their career paths, our students learnt what opportunities might be available for them at a similar organisation in the future. They met a variety of people working in sales and analytics, global data, operations, customer support and technical support.
‘This is what I want to do’
Our students were particularly impressed by the flexibility of working in a multinational organisation, with many commenting that the advice they received had broadened their knowledge of potential careers and, most importantly, what is required academically by future employers. Here’s what they had to say:
‘It’s really helped me think about what I want to study at university. I was unsure whether accountancy and finance would get me to the place that I want to go, but now I feel that I’m certain that it is what I want to do.’
‘I enjoyed learning about people’s backgrounds. I liked that their careers were not limited by what they studied at university.’
‘I didn’t even know the roles I learnt about today existed before and it’s great to come and find out what jobs are available.’
