The demolition of ARK Putney Academy’s gyms began over Easter, as part of a £30 million project to refurbish the whole school building.
The project will completely transform ARK Putney. At the end of it, pupils will have exceptional sports facilities – these will include a new four-court sports hall, an activity studio for classes such as boxing and dance, and three new outdoor games areas. The school will also have a brand new art space on the top floor, with stunning views across London, along with brighter and more spacious corridors and classrooms.
“We’re thrilled that this project is underway,” said Alison Downey, Principal at ARK Putney. “A school environment plays such an important part in the way pupils learn – and, by the end of this project, our teaching and learning environment will be truly exceptional. Our school has been rated Good in every category by Ofsted, so this refurbishment is the next step in making ours an extraordinary school.”
The work is being carried out by Lend Lease and is due to be completed by summer 2015. Staff and pupils are already excited about what the work will mean for school life.
“We are entering an exciting phase where students will be able to witness the construction of the new sports and activity spaces,” said Richard Cook, Head of Residential at Lend Lease. “We look forward to welcoming students to their new facilities over the course of next year.”
