Ark had cause to celebrate in the fifth annual EducationInvestor awards this year, winning ‘best school operator – academy chain’ in a gala ceremony held in London. The academy network beat competition from other major academy groups including Ormiston to win the prestigious trophy.

The catering team at Helenswood Academy brought home the bacon this week after winning an award for the best allergy-free school dinners in the country.
Helenswood  was presented a FreeFrom Eating Out Award by top chef Anthony Worrall Thompson at an event in London on Tuesday 18 November. The annual award celebrates quality food that is free from common allergens such as gluten, wheat, dairy, soya or nuts.

Over the last few months, Ark pupils have been learning lines, designing sets and even practicing their sword-fighting skills, all in the name of Shakespeare.
Pupils from 12 Ark schools have taken part in the annual Shakespeare Schools Festival, which after months of rehearsals, culminated in three nights of inspiring performances at the Shaw Theatre, Euston, the Arts Depot Theatre, North Finchley and the Secombe Theatre, Sutton.

Schools from across the Ark network have been marking Remembrance Day with sombre and moving tributes to those killed in conflict over the last century.
Many of the schools marked the First World War centenary with moving poems, speeches and performances alongside the traditional two minutes’ silence.

Ark All Saints Academy’s choir led nearly a million school children across the world in an international national Remembrance assembly at the Tower of London.
The choir opened and closed a special assembly from the Tower, streamed live over the web to schools across the globe and watched by 850,000 pupils, according to organisers Discovery Education.

Two of Ark’s schools are celebrating making it to the regional finals of a prestigious debating competition after tackling difficult questions about the role of sports people in society and IVF treatment.
Ark Burlington Danes Academy and Globe Academy will now face off against some of the best schools debating teams in London after impressing judges with their rhetorical flair and keen teamwork.

Ark Globe Academy in Southwark this week hosted an anti-bullying rally to launch the Department for Education's new anti-bullying campaign in association with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).
WWE performers Paige, Big E and Kofi Kingston attended the event alongside Ed Timpson MP, Minister for Children and Families. They were joined by a group of 150 primary school children from Ark Globe.
Their message was – “don’t be a bully, be a star!”

To mark Dyslexia Awareness Week this week, the Driver Youth Trust are launching a new website for the Drive for Literacy programme www.driveforliteracy.co.uk alongside a new campaign to engage teachers and parents called #YouKnowADyslexic launched by Eddie Izzard, who is himself dyslexic in this video: http://vimeo.com/108894770

Charter Academy has opened its new state-of-the-art building in a ceremony led by a high-ranking Royal Navy officer.
The Opening Ceremony marks the culmination of eighteen months building works, providing new classrooms and facilities for students, alongside its older buildings.

ARK Schools have beaten the odds to increase the percentage of students achieving 5 good GCSEs – despite a national drop in the rate of students receiving the same results.
Overall, 58% of students at ARK schools got 5 GCSEs A*-C, including English and maths, compared to a national average of 52.6%
Despite a drop in the number of students at other schools achieving 5 A*-C grades from 59.2% in 2013 to 52.6% this year, ARK’s academy schools not only held the line – but even increased the percentage of students achieving this marker by four percentage points.
